Official Statement oN G7 MINISTERS OF ENVIRONMENT COMMUNIQUE

30 April, 2024

“We commend G7 Environment Ministers for recalling their international biodiversity finance commitment of $20 billion per year by 2025 and $30 billion per year by 2030 to developing countries and committing to increase funding and 'urgently accelerate our efforts ... recognizing the limited time remaining to achieve them, particularly those with a deadline of 2025'. This funding is critical for advancing efforts to protect at least 30% of the world’s land and sea, which G7 countries agreed to as part of the KM-GBF at COP15. By recalling their commitment to the $20 billion, Ministers are demonstrating that they are serious about confronting the biodiversity crisis. Scientists have warned that nature is declining at rates unprecedented in human history. Increased finance, especially international public finance, is essential to protect 30 by 30 and stem the tide of biodiversity loss.

Campaign for Nature is grateful for the leadership that G7 countries are committing to through this communiqué and encourages them to maintain and deliver that ambition.”
